This is one of four Cornish plays by Mike Hasshill.

Tamsyn Tremaine is a suitable play for a professional or a good amateur company to stage. It is a powerful drama, but it has some lighter moments. The North Cornwall Theatre Company originally produced it "in the round" during the 1980 summer season at Tintagel. They invited competent lay actors from around Cornwall to perform. The running time is a little over one and a half hours.

Tamsyn Tremaine is set around the village of Delabole, in North Cornwall, towards the end of the nineteenth century. The huge quarry at Delabole is known throughout the world for its slate. The whole area was strongly Methodist at the time.

The play tells the story of Tamsyn and her efforts to save her dull-witted brother from a charge of murder.

There are five leading parts for men. One smaller part requires a strong character, and there are two further minor male roles. Nine roles for women include two main characters and five important, shorter, parts. All the players have good opportunities to develop the strength of their characters.

An arena with several entrances will make the director's job easier. There is a minimal requirement for scenery and props. Management of the lighting is important, and the sound needs to be competently controlled. Costume approximating to the period is required, but is of a rural, rather than elaborate, nature.

The other Cornish plays by Mike Hasshill are:

The Improbable History of Doniert - King of Cornwall
O Happy Band
The Penstock Rite
