Preparation of quotation for book publication

At High View we are always pleased to prepare a quotation for work that a customer is considering placing with us. We only provide written quotations, and will not discuss costings on the telephone. We are happy to use the telephone to discuss various matters relating to the preparation of materials and the finished product.

To demonstrate that the client is fully aware of his or her responsibilities we require a written request for a quotation. This must state how the material is to be provided by the client, and must indicate how much work is required from High View: typesetting; design; artwork; proofreading; copy-proofing; image manipulation; pagination; file transfers; provision of proofs; print; binding; wrapping; delivery; storage.

This may seem a formidable list. In our experience many clients have not considered the costs of necessary services other than that of the printing process. We are pleased to advise on all of this, but cannot estimate costs unless we are clear as to what we have to do. We need to be sure that clients know what we are contracting to do for them, and what they will have to undertake for themselves. A recent case study may help illustrate this.
