Images for Printing by Offset Litho

High View Reference Number 11331134.

At High View we will prepare your images to be ready for printing by offset litho. If you wish to do some work on your image beforehand please remember that it it will probably not save you any money, and it is likely that you will do something to reduce the quality of your pictures.

The finished requirement is for a size-for-size, 400dpi, CMYK, TIFF file. To send anything else to High View is fine. We will do the conversion to meet that specification, it is not a big chore.

"To send you a tiff file will take ages by e-mail, I haven't got broadband, can I send a jpeg?" Yes, of course you can - but you are losing quality. A jpeg file is much smaller than the corresponding tiff - because it has condensed and (irretrievably) removed some of your information. Send the file on a CD by first class post - it only costs a day or two longer. High quality files are large, and CMYK adds to the size.

"My software can do the conversions." Good. Most software packages these days can handle this. There is a possibility that some popular programs do not use the most sophisticated mathematics to handle the task efficiently. At High View we cannot risk compromise on quality, and use industry-leading software.

"How do I get the size right?" Trimming your image to cut-away unwanted background is best left to you, since it is a matter of taste. We can, of course, work to your instructions, it is quite easy. Zooming, severe cropping, will reduce the quality. Some people have difficulty in coping with proportions - a landscape picture will not easily fill an upright page. Then there is the matter of bleed to consider. Sometimes it is helpful to send a selection of pictures, and we will apply our experience to choose the most appropriate. Discuss it with us at an early stage.
